July
Mangoes are one of Okinawa’s iconic fruits. Okinawa ranks first in mango production in Japan, and the prefecture has designated July 15, the height of the mango shipping season, as Mango Day. Grown bathed in Okinawa’s abundant sunshine, these mangoes are highly regarded both domestically and internationally, and are shipped nationwide as premium gifts in summer. They are prized for their distinctive sweet aroma, melt-in-the-mouth texture, and a perfect balance between rich sweetness and gentle tanginess. Mangoes contain nutrients such as carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body, as well as vitamin C, helping support everyday health and healthy skin. In Okinawa, ripe mangoes are enjoyed as fresh fruit desserts or freshly pressed juice, and are also popular as ingredients in jellies, cakes, and other sweets.
