seasonal peakOctoberStar fruit takes their name from their beautiful star-shaped cross-section. The translucent flesh is juicy, sweet, and tangy, and has a crisp texture. Starfruit is rich in potassium and also contains abundant proanthocyanidins, a type of polyphenol. It was introduced to Japan in the 18th century, and has long been cultivated in Okinawa. In Okinawa Prefecture, a premium cultivar called Churaboshi (“beautiful star”) has been trademarked as a local brand. It has a sugar content about 10% higher than conventional varieties, with excellent shape and flavor. It can be eaten with the skin on, and in addition to being delicious, its bright yellow star-shaped slices add a striking accent to desserts and salads.See restaurants where you can eat this ingredient
