seasonal peakJanuary / February / March / DecemberRed-fleshed melons are mainly grown on Miyako Island, further south of Okinawa Main Island and blessed with the warm climate and mineral-rich soil, as well as in Yomitan Village. Miyako Island has two melon harvest seasons, one in winter and one in spring, making them the earliest domestically grown melons available in Japan each year. Because of this, they are highly valued and are often given as special gifts around Christmas and the year-end/New Year holidays. Those with a sugar content above 14° Brix are certified as “Miyakojima Melons.” They are known for their strong aroma, intense sweetness, and flesh so juicy it drips with every bite. In recent years, melons grown in Yomitan Village on Okinawa Main Island have also been attracting attention. Red-fleshed melons are rich in carotene, which has strong antioxidant properties, as well as potassium, which helps support the body’s condition.See restaurants where you can eat this ingredient
